Peacock

The peacock, the national bird of India, live in mountainous forests and low land jungles. Being one of the most beautiful and colourful birds it is frequently kept as an ornamental species. This bird is held in high esteem by the Hindus.When the weather is cloudy the peacock spreads its feather vertically and starts dancing in rhythemic steps as a damsel. It is a feast to the eyes to see the peacock dancing. Peacock is vegetarian and lives on fruits and leaves. It possesses a sharp and powerful beak capable of cracking the tough nuts used for food.

The male peacock only is endowed with the long spotted glistening feathers and the female ones look much smaller in size. A male peacock in his full plumage is about 7ft. long with its tail of golden green and peacock blue.The peacock is the member of pheasant group.
