Copper plate grants of the Bhaumakara period

The gallery possesses a number of copper plate grants of the Bhaumakara rulers. Among them the Copper plate grants of Sivakara Deva, Santikaradeva, Dharma Mahadevi, Dandi Mahadevi appear to be very important from epigraphical point of view. The copper plate grant of Sivakaradeva recovered from the village Chaurasi in Puri district gives the genealogy of the Bhauma rulers in the prasasti. The names of mothers of successive kings of this dynasty have also been indicated in this charter. A number of vassal chiefs like the Bhanjas, the Tungas, the Nandodbhavas, the Sulkies, the Svetaka Gangas were ruling under the efficient control of the Bhaumakaras. They too have issued quite a large number of copper plate charters of which we preserve a few at present in the Epigraphy section. They throw new light in the reconstruction of political and cultural history of Odisha of the early medieval period. The copper plate grant of Satrubhanja provides interesting evidences in the determination of the Bhouma era.
